Book Review: Sheerluck Holmes and the Case of the Missing Friend by Karen Poth

Book Review: Sheerluck Holmes and the Case of the Missing Friend by Karen Poth

Author: Karen Poth

Publisher: Zonderkidz

Reading Level: Leisure

Pages: 32

Sheerluck Holmes and the Case of the Missing Friend (henceforth Sheerluck Holmes) is the second “I Can Read! Level 1” series book we have reviewed by Karen Poth. As with many of the previous Zonderkidz books, the illustrations are spectacular. With 32 pages of simple and short sentences, the illustrations stand out and effectually drive the story for the child reader.

For us, the main consumer is our 2 ½ yr old who is incapable of “reading.” Instead she memorizes the important sentences and associates them with the illustrations. She really enjoys the book and the particular “ahchooo” that anchors the story. Sheerluck Holmes is a lesson in treating others in a loving and kind manner. The story does little to deviate or expand upon this subject. For our child, and likewise young readers, this is clearly advantageous. Unlike some other Veggie Tales stories this one was a little less funny and more repetitive than usual for parental reading.

In conclusion, Sheerluck Holmes is a good book. Not the best Veggie Tales, but a delightful book by Karen Poth regularly requested by name.
